IT2080026 – Reproductive sites of Acipenser naccarii

Action A3 has finally been completed with the establishment of a new site for the protection and conservation of Acipenser naccarii, foreseen by the project’s actions. In fact, the action provides for torpedo containment activities to allow the long-term conservation of the Cobice sturgeon.

The preparation of the scientific documentation to support the request for designation of the new SAC began in January 2017. A very long time, but finally, almost at the end of 2020, the news of approval from the Ministry of the Environment arrives! The new SIC has been proposed to the European Commission, with the name IT2080026 – Reproductive sites of Acipenser naccarii.

The new site has an area of about 3.5 ha, and is characterized by a running water habitat, having stretches of water courses with natural or semi-natural dynamics (minor, medium and major beds) in which the water quality does not show significant alterations (HABITAT 3270). There are numerous species listed in Annex 4 of the Birds Directive and Annex 2 of the Habitats Directive, and among them we certainly find our Acipenser naccarii.
